Millions of children – especially the 32.4 million growing up in low-income families—are not being taught how to eat or cook healthy. The results have been catastrophic. Today, 16 million children face hunger in the United States and one in three are overweight or obese.
While obesity occurs across the entire population, low-income families are more likely to suffer from weight-related health problems due to the increased risk factors associated with poverty. If we do not act now, our children will carry the health burdens of obesity with them into adulthood.
At Common Threads, we are picking up our pots and pans to fight the obesity crisis and hunger paradox on the front line: In kitchens of low-income, urban communities across America. The following partners are joining the fight:
Common Threads' unique approach to educating children drives long-term behavior change. Our research-based methodology addresses the many factors that influence a child's decision making: personal, interpersonal, and environmental. Using curriculum tied to Common Core standards, Common Threads is approved to work within school districts, so we can meet kids where they need us—and where we can help you build a school-wide culture of health.

To reverse the obesity crisis, we are building stronger, healthier communities by connecting our proven curriculum and programming with targeted schools, communities, and web-based organizations. When we connect all stakeholders in the health and wellness community, we create the opportunity for change in individuals' lives. By working with nonprofit partners, we can grow a cohesive movement and foster the long-term change we all seek.

Corporations partner with Common Threads in a variety of ways to activate the power of kids cooking healthy. We work with corporations on a regional and national level to create a partnership that provides unique promotional and engagement opportunities for partners and sponsors. Some of our partner benefits include recognition in social and traditional media and communications; employee engagement opportunities; opportunity to connect with our chef & school networks; and the invitation to create a unique proprietary platform as you promote kids cooking healthy together.
Generous sponsors currently helping kids cook and eat healthy include:
As we grow, we are seeking partners to make an investment in the children and communities who need our help. Thanks to an investment from the Walmart Foundation, we are beginning a period of capacity building and ambitious, yet achievable growth.

Foundations partner with Common Threads to support the organization's national programs, or our continuum of programming in specific cities where we work. We have consistently seen that students who are involved in Common Threads programs not only grow in their awareness of healthy habits and cooking skills, but are better connected to their community and more confident in themselves.
We are grateful for the support of these valued foundation partners:
Over the next three years, Common Threads will continue to grow the number of students we reach; train more educators; and continue investing in rigorous program evaluation. If you would like to support Common Threads programs, nationally or in your community, please e-mail us at email@example.com.
