Common Threads’ Chef Instructors are professional chefs and teachers, trained in Common Threads’ unique curriculum, who teach the students at each of our thirty sites throughout Chicago, as well as in Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, DC. Chef Instructors nurture and mentor our students, while leading them through the prep, cooking, clean-up and, of course, eating of the three hands-on ethnic recipes each week!

Chef Alekka Mills is Executive Chef and Owner of Give Me Some Sugar, a unique business that provides at-home culinary instruction for both adults and children in a social atmosphere. From a young age, Alekka Sweeney enjoyed the communal, creative feel engendered by a warm, busy kitchen. She started her culinary career baking bread at her mother’s side and sipping wine with her father.
